Beginning the Allurion Journey
The focus is on understanding the program, preparing for the balloon, and beginning to rethink portions and eating habits.

When patients ask me how quickly they may begin noticing changes with a weight loss program, I always remind them that every journey is different. Shirley’s first two months with the Allurion® Program offer one real-world example of what early progress can look like.
In just two months, Shirley is 15 pounds down, has gone from an XL to a Large, reports having more energy throughout the day, and says she feels healthier and more confident.
Her experience is encouraging, but it is her individual result. It should not be interpreted as a guarantee or prediction of another patient’s outcome.
See Shirley’s progress and hear how she feels two months into her Allurion® journey.
Patient result: Shirley lost 15 pounds during her first two months in the Allurion® Program. Individual results vary.
A swallowable gastric balloon designed to support portion control without traditional bariatric surgery.
The Allurion® Smart Capsule offers a different approach to gastric balloon therapy. The balloon begins inside a capsule that the patient swallows. After its position is confirmed, it is filled inside the stomach.
Unlike many traditional gastric balloons, the Allurion Balloon is designed to avoid endoscopic placement and removal. That distinction may appeal to patients who want additional help with portion control but are not ready for traditional bariatric surgery.
The balloon is temporary. The habits you build should not be. That is an important part of how we approach the program at Khrom MedSpa & Weight Loss.
The first weeks are not only about losing pounds. They are about adjusting, learning new portions, and developing a routine that can continue as progress builds.
The focus is on understanding the program, preparing for the balloon, and beginning to rethink portions and eating habits.
The stomach needs time to adapt. Patients follow specific dietary and hydration instructions during this early period.
Smaller portions begin becoming part of everyday life. Nutrition, hydration, activity, and medical follow-up remain important.
For Shirley, two months brought measurable changes: 15 pounds lost, XL to Large, more energy, and more confidence.
Shirley’s experience shows why I encourage patients to look beyond one number on the scale.
The scale: Fifteen pounds is an obvious milestone, but weight does not necessarily fall at the same rate every week. Some weeks move quickly; others barely move. The overall direction matters more.
Clothing: Shirley went from an XL to a Large. Sometimes your closet tells the story better than the scale.
Energy: Shirley also reports more energy throughout the day. Weight management should be about more than becoming smaller. We want patients to improve health, mobility, energy, confidence, and quality of life.
Patients naturally want to know what happens when they swallow the capsule, what the first few days feel like, and how quickly they may return to everyday activities.

Every patient responds differently, which is precisely why individual patient stories are useful. Shirley’s story shows one two-month experience.

The purpose is not to compare one patient’s pounds with another’s. It is to understand that there is no single universal Allurion experience.
For some patients, this is one of the main reasons they are interested in Allurion. They may have tried a GLP-1 medication and experienced side effects. Others do not want injections or ongoing medication.
Allurion and GLP-1 medications are fundamentally different tools. GLP-1 medications influence appetite and metabolic signaling, while the Allurion Balloon occupies space inside the stomach and supports smaller portions during the treatment period.
Neither approach is automatically better. Read our guide about the Allurion Smart Capsule as an alternative to Ozempic® or Wegovy®.
Not every gastric balloon is placed the same way. Traditional balloons generally require endoscopic placement and later endoscopic removal.
Allurion was developed differently. Because the capsule is swallowed and the balloon is designed to empty and pass naturally after its treatment period, it eliminates some of the procedural steps associated with conventional balloons.

New weight loss technology is exciting, but experience with the treatment matters too.
I was involved with the first Allurion Balloon placement in New York City, and I have been able to see firsthand the questions patients have before treatment and the challenges that can arise afterward.
The balloon is a tool. The program surrounding it matters just as much.
Allurion is not necessarily the right choice for every patient. Some patients want a temporary intervention. Others are looking for something designed to provide longer-term stomach-volume reduction without traditional bariatric surgery.
That is where Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty (ESG) may enter the conversation.
During ESG, an endoscope is passed through the mouth and internal sutures are placed to reshape the stomach and reduce its functional volume. There are no external abdominal incisions, and no portion of the stomach is surgically removed.
ESG and Allurion are not competitors. They are different tools for different patients.
| Feature | Allurion® | ESG |
|---|---|---|
| Approach | Swallowable gastric balloon | Endoscopic suturing |
| External incisions | No | No |
| Endoscopy for placement | No | Yes |
| Anesthesia for placement | No | Yes |
| Temporary? | Yes | Designed as a longer-term intervention |
| How stomach volume is affected | Balloon occupies stomach space | Sutures reduce functional stomach volume |
| Lifestyle changes needed | Yes | Yes |
| Medical follow-up | Yes | Yes |
It is better to ask whether your individual progress is appropriate than whether it matches Shirley’s.
Her result was 15 pounds in two months. Another patient may lose less. Another may lose more.
Starting weight, metabolism, age, medical conditions, nutrition, physical activity, adherence, and individual response can all influence results. That is why we do not promise patients that they will reproduce someone else’s before-and-after result.
Shirley’s story is not finished. But after two months, she already has several milestones worth celebrating:
15 pounds down. XL → Large. More energy. Feeling healthier and more confident.
The next goal is to keep moving forward and turn early progress into habits that can support long-term weight management.
